Our Review:

LesbianUK.co.uk is a colourful lesbian dating site for women in the UK, although membership is not confined to the UK alone. It's nicely arranged and relatively uncluttered too. It caters for lesbian, bisexual and bi-curious women whether looking for friendship, dating, casual encounters or a relationship. It's free to join but you'll need a valid email address. Note that your profile needs to be approved before you can use the site fully. Approval usually takes 1-2 hours, but can be up to 12. Once you've joined you get a free 3-day trial to premium membership. It's up to you whether you subscribe or revert to the free standard membership.

It's not the busiest site. Whilst there are thousands of profiles registered, this is just an approximation as there are no site statistics to inform you exactly. At the time of this review there were 374 online, most members being from the UK and Australia, with others from the USA, Europe and Asia. There are plenty of complete profiles to be found here, most profiles with at least one photo. The basic profile lists a member's name, location, looking for, and a short self-written description. Full profiles list all of the above, plus appearance, habits, interests and more. It's only possible to upload a single photo to your profile, but you can swap it for another if you like.

To search for profiles you can use the quick search option, which allows you to specify location only (and yields only members online or filter out profiles without photos). This can be expanded to include other locations, looking for, sexuality, relationship status and a keyword. Meanwhile, the advanced search allows you to specify a range of criteria in addition to the above, including zodiac sign, habits, employment, children, appearance, interests and more (searches can be saved too). Finally, there's a username search and one or two preconfigured searches, including 'online now' and 'new girls', as well as an instant search that lists all members matching your age and location. To connect with other members, you get an internal email account that allows you to exchange messages with other members privately and securely. This is most commonly used for communication, though if you want to register interest in another member to initiate contact it's possible to send a 'smile'; this is an automatic, preformatted message sent by clicking on the appropriate icon on a member's profile. You can also request to chat in real time using the instant messenger (IM) feature, again accessed by clicking on the profile of the member you want to chat with (as long as they are online and want to chat with you). As you get to know other members you can start to build up a friends network and create a list of favorite profiles.

When you join you get a free 3-day premium trial membership, which gives you access to all features. After this you can choose to continue with the premium membership or downgrade to a free standard membership. This gives you free preformatted messages to other members, access to search tools (except advanced search), create a friends network and favourites list and technical support by email. Premium members get unlimited access to all features, plus priority listing in search results and priority customer support. If you join for 12 months you can save 69%, or 52% on your subscription over 6 months, or 33% over 3 months. Whilst these are good deals, you might want to check out some of the other sites in this category before committing, although the price is reasonable enough.

LesbianUK.co.uk gives you a range of features at significantly discounted prices, but with a fairly small membership base, can't quite match the pulling power of the top sites in this category.
