Our Review:

Grrl2Grrl.com is a lesbian dating site catering for women searching for pen pals, erotic chat, friendship, casual encounters, dating and relationships. Having such a broad remit, it packs in some original and entertaining features and gives you a great dating site at a good price. However, it's slightly let down by the lack of activity online.

At the time of this review there were just 13 online and 7 recently joined members. Clearly, this is fairly disappointing for any dating site but may be due to the somewhat unsociable hour that I logged in. You can normally expect to find hundreds of members online. Most members hail from the US, though the reach is global and there are plenty of members here from Europe, Asia and Australasia too. There's a definite community feel here and lesbian issues and networking are accentuated to a level of importance often neglected by other lesbian dating sites. As well as finding lesbians on the site you'll also find bisexual females, queer grrls and lesbian and bisexual couples too. Being integrated with the scene means that you'll come across many subcultural terms; here you'll find 'diesels', 'dykes' 'femmes' and more. Most browsing is done viewing preview profiles, which contain a thumbnail photo plus the member's age, relationship status and location. You can get in touch with members through the preview profile or click on the preview to access the not very detailed full profile. Whilst there are inactive profiles on the site, the greater proportion are complete with photos and you can also screen out inactives by checking the last login date on a member's profile page. Free members are restricted to uploading 5 photos to their profile, whilst upgraded members (VIP Venus) can upload 10. You won't find any nudity on the site. 

To search for profiles there's a variety of options. Username search lets you find a member if you know all or part of their username. Quick search allows you to specify the kind of woman you're after (e.g. bi/lesbian/couple, etc.), looking for, age range, location, distance and zip code. You can also filter results to yield profiles with photos and sort by most recent members and age. The 'grand search' extends the quick search to include body type, children, hair/eye color, zodiac sign, drinking/smoking habits and ethnicity (with the same filters and sort features as above). You can also save searches to save having to specify the criteria you're interested in over again. To connect with other members there are plenty of options. The usual way of contacting other members is by email, and there's an internal email system to allow you to do this securely and privately. You can also initiate contact and break the ice by sending a 'kiss' to a member (simply by clicking on the appropriate icon on their profile). If you want to chat in real time with another member (providing they're online), you can request to chat using the instant messenger (IM) feature. It's also possible to get in touch and make your presence known by posting to one of the many member forums, creating a favorites list or entering the chat rooms. They were practically empty at the time of this review but can be buzzing with activity at times.

Other original features include book reviews (books 4 babes), film reviews (girls on film) and recipes (appetite 4 seduction). You can post your own reviews and recipes or read others' posts. The 'Devil's Diary' feature encourages you to confess your sins, whilst 'Ask Dykeboots' answers your personal problems. These are fun ways of getting to know the wider community, as well as potentially putting you in touch with other single women. It's all about getting involved. Free members can create a profile and browse other profiles, use free chat rooms post to forums, and access features such as 'Appetite 4 seduction'. However, free members cannot send emails, smiles, use IM, advanced search or ecards. Premium members get unrestricted access to email, IM, smiles and chat rooms, all search tools, can upload more photos (10) get extra email storage (up to 10mb), enlarge galley photos, add unlimited profiles to a favorites list and get priority email and customer support. If you do think about upgrading, it will cost you just $12.50 per month if you sign up for a year.

Grrl2Grrl.com may not pack as much of a punch in terms of members as some of the sites above it, but compares favorably in terms of features and originality. It has a great community feel, is fun and easy to navigate, so why not try it today?
