Our Review:

LDate.com is one of the best sites in this category. It specialises in finding lasting relationships for lesbians and so it's not the ideal place to come if you're just looking for friendship or casual encounters. However, if you want to meet somebody special then the great features and huge membership base will undoubtedly help you in your search. It's easy to navigate and once your profile is set up you're free to look around the site.

Unlike some of the other dating sites in this category, it takes a little more time to register and create your profile as the profiles are somewhat more detailed. It's still free to join, all you need is a vaild email address. Once you've gone through the profile creation process you're free to use the site. It's difficult to ascertain the number of members online at any one time, not only because only members that are potentially compatible with you are  returned, but also because such statistics are not openly stated. LDate.com is a little different and you should bear in mind that their approach is to match you with suitable others, rather than simply letting you loose to explore. Nonetheless, there are hundreds of thousands of members registered and usually hundreds, if not thousands online, so the chances of meeting the kind of woman you are interested in is high. In addition, the fact that the site caters for a specific type of relationship means that those you do find here will be after the same type of relationship too, which also boosts your chances.

Profiles are quite detailed and cover the kind of information you'll find on other dating sites, including location, what a member is looking for, interests, appearance, occupation, habits, education, physical characteristics, children and more. You can upload multiple photos (up to 27) to your profile, which take 24-72 hours to be approved by the site. They will also scan and upload photos for you if you post them. It's a good idea to consider verifying your membership. Full details on how to do this are given on the site, but it shows other members that your profile is genuine. Likewise, when browsing other profiles you can be confident a profile is authentic if it shows that the member is 'verified'. However, it's necessary to become a Gold member in order to verify your membership, though you automatically get your profile featured if you upgrade (see below). 

There's a range of search options to help you browse profiles on the site. The quick search option swiftly yields members based upon preferences with regard to relationship status, looking for, age range and location. If this is too broad the full search allows you to add a zip code, physical characteristics, lifestyle and desired relationship features. Meanwhile, the advanced search lets you specify distance from the zip code, more physical characteristics, willingness to relocate, ethnicity, religion and more. There's also a location search, name search and recommended member search, as well as preconfigured one-click searches including 'compatible matches', 'birthday members' and 'new members'. To connect with other members, LDate.com features an internal email system by which you can exchange messages with other members safely and securely. To initiate contact with other members, rather than send an email, it's possible to send a 'wink' instead. The other member is informed that they have been winked at and will hopefully reply. To chat in real time you can click on a profile and request to communicate using the instant messenger (IM) feature (text only). To do so, the other member has to be online. Other ways of getting in touch include creating a friends network (as you get to know people on the site-the other member has to confirm you as a friend) or a favorites list (members are informed when you add them to your favorites list). You can also check out the blogs and create your own posts or read those of other members (919,312,065 at the time of this review) or get involved in the community forums, where you'll find many topics including lesbian interests, LDate.com issues, hobbies and interests and more, including a message board with personal ads.  You'll also find sections on dating tips. So, there's plenty to get involved with on the site.

Free members can join and create a profile, reply to emails (except winks) and IM, but cannot initiate emails, IM or winks. Free members can also search profiles, but are limited to using the quick search tool only. Premium (Gold) members get unrestricted use of all the features mentioned above, plus send lesbian ecards, get their profiles featured and can upload more photos to their profile. You can also get a free Gold membership if you share your dating advice, report abuse on the site, write articles, recommend LDate.com to other sites or spread the message on social media sites. However, if you do have to subscribe you can save up to 60% on a Gold membership by committing for a year. It's obviously best to check out the site and see if you like it first. Finally, there's great 24/7 phone support (which is unusual for dating sites), a FAQs section and email support, plus priority care for Gold members. 

LDate.com is one of the best sites in this category and a must-see if you're looking for a more committed relationship with another female rather than casual encounters or online fun. You can save a great deal if you sign up for a year; even better, promote or contribute to the site and you could get a premium membership for free.
