Our Review:

CuriousLove.com is a curiously-named dating site for lesbian, bisexual and bi-curious women. It's not the easiest site to navigate, but there's a handy site map to refer to if you can't find what you're looking for. CuriousLove.com caters to those seeking friendship and online chat, friendship, casual encounters or a relationship. It prides itself on being easy and quick to get going; you can be online and browsing profiles in just a couple of minutes, just remember that you'll need a valid email address.

On the homepage you'll find a useful 'site stats' box. At the time of this review there were 348 new members and 228 new photos this week. As a whole, the site boasts 47,292 lesbians, 30,306 bisexuals and 34,572 bi-curious members. In comparison to other sites, these figures suggest that this site is quite small and therefore less active than many others. This was confirmed by the fact that there were less than 20 members online, though do remember that the online presence will fluctuate depending on the time of day. Checking out a site before you join should be done around the time that you would probably use it as a member. You'll find profiles posted by lesbians, bisexuals, bi-curious women and couples too (MF/FF). Plenty of profiles feature multiple photos and you also get to see the last time a profile was accessed, helping you to screen out inactive ones. The full profiles have a disappointing lack of detail, even though the majority are complete. You won't really get to know too much about members from these.

With reference to search options, quick search allows you to look for profiles by specifying a fairly limited range of criteria (I am, seeking a, age range, country) and allowing you to filter the results to yield only profiles with photos. The advanced search enables you to expand these limited criteria to include distance from your location and zip code. You can also filter profiles so that you're left with profiles with photos/videos or online members only. There's also a range of preconfigured searches, giving you all 'newest members' and letting you specify which gender (lesbian/bi/bi-curious/couple). To connect with other members you can use the internal email system to exchange messages. To break the ice and register interest in a member, sending a 'wink' generates a preformatted message that is automatically sent to that member. If this is a little slow there's an instant messenger (IM) function) that allows you to chat in real time with other members online. Meanwhile, the video messenger (VM) adds an extra dimension by allowing you to plug in your webcam and chat in real time whilst being able to see and hear each other (IM is text only). Other options for connecting include creating your own blog, though if you read another member's blog only the last 5 entries can be accessed. You can also create a friends list or a hot people list of your favorite profiles. As membership is free you get all of the above without a subscription fee, which represents a great deal. The only problem is that the membership base isn't all that large and so your chances of meeting others are a little more limited than on other sites. Finally, the FAQs section isn't especially detailed or helpful, so you're likely to have to resort to using the email support form if you have any problems or queries.

CuriousLove.com gives you a great standard of membership for free. Ultimately however, it falls short in terms of members and the site can be a little quiet.
