Our Review:

GirlsWeb.co.uk is a lesbian dating site that, whilst lacking the polish of some other sites in this category and looking rather plain, nonetheless gives you plenty of features and all for no subscription fee. It takes just a minute to sign up, but you can't access features such as email until your profile has been approved and you receive your confirmation code, which usually takes a couple of hours at least.

Unfortunately, the site isn't especially upfront about the membership base, but as an approximation you'll find thousands of profiles listed. At the time of this review there were just 42 online, which is quite a poor showing and suggests that the site isn't the most active. Most members are from the UK. The profiles themselves aren't the most detailed you'll find on the sites in this category, with mostly only very basic details recorded. The best way of getting an idea about the character of a member is to read the 'about me' blurb, which is self-written. Plenty of profiles feature photos, and you won't find any depictions of nudity or sexual acts here. If you're a free member, the lack of quality members may be due to the fact that it's possible to hide your profile from standard members if you upgrade. Usefully, you get to see how long ago a member joined and their last login date, which helps screen out inactive profiles.

A number of search options are available. The basic search lets you specify age range, location and occupation. Meanwhile, the more extensive mega-search lets you add country/area, looking for, music and TV preferences,  hair color, eye color, body shape, education, profession, appearance and language(s) spoken. You can also filter out profiles without pictures and sort your results in a range of ways, e.g. by username, age, location, last login, last updated and member since, most of which are useful for screening out inactives. Finally, there are preconfigured searches that allow you to find 'who's online', 'random profiles' and 'last 20 viewed profiles' with one click. The options for connecting with other members are fairly limited in comparison to other sites in this  category. The internal email system allows you to exchange private emails with other members. This is the standard tool for contacting other members and can be easily accessed from a profile. if you would prefer to chat in real time you can plug in to your Yahoo or MSN (IM) messenger on the site and request to chat with other members with just a click of your mouse. You can also create a favourites list of your preferred profiles, as other members will be informed and this might help to initiate contact. If members are causing a nuisance you can also block them, which means that your profile will not appear to them when they login to the site.

Because membership is free, this all amounts to a pretty good deal. The only downside is that the site can be a little quiet, not least due to the rather modest membership base, hence the opportunities for meeting members are somewhat more limited than on other sites. However, there's a good, reliable technical support system in case you have any problems or queries. You can email by filling in the support form or call by telephone if it's urgent. The discussion board and FAQs section is a little too jumbled to be of any use.

GirlsWeb.co.uk gives you plenty of decent quality features for free, including a video messenger,  though sadly it's not especially lively here and you'd be better off trying one of the other sites in this category if you're serious about getting to meet other lesbians online.
